Solar house design team brings home awards

Missouri S&T’s Solar House Team placed fourth overall in the U.S. Department of Energy’s international Solar Decathlon in Denver. The team also placed third in the competition’s architecture and innovation category. The house is named SILO (Smart Innovative Living Oasis).

Geology grad student gets best poster award

Olufeyisayo Ilesanmi, a Ph.D. candidate in geology and geophysics, received the Best Graduate Student Poster Award at the 54th National Conference of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) on Sept. 25 in Nashville. Her presentation was titled “Geohazard Mapping Using Lidar and Satellite Imagery in Oklahoma.”

Edmands Martin’s book chapter accepted for publication

Sarah Edmands Martin, senior media producer in the office of sponsored programs, presented her paper titled “Swiping Left on Empathy: Gamification and Commodification of the (Inter)Face” at the World Design Summit in October in Montreal, Canada. Martin’s chapter proposal of the same title has been accepted in the book Design & Ethics by Bloomsbury publishing.
