AAEES awards go to two faculty

The American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists is honoring Dr. Joel Burken and Dr. Daniel Oerther with a pair of awards. The awards will be presented in April 2018 at the National Press Club in Washington.

Burken, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, will receive the group’s inaugural Science Award, which recognizes individuals who use science as a partner in engineering solutions to protect public health and the environment.

Oerther is professor of environmental health engineering and an AAEES board member. He will receive the 2018 Stanley

E. Kappe Award, which is given to an environmental scientist who has “performed extraordinary and outstanding service contributory to significant advancement of public awareness to the betterment of the total environment.”
