Eli Hernandez, a doctoral student in civil engineering, has been named a University Transportation Center Outstanding Student of the Year by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
Hernandez is working with the Research of Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation (RE-CAST) UTC while working on his dissertation, which examines the strength evaluation of bridges through load testing. His graduate adviser is Dr. John Myers.
Hernandez will receive the award in January in Washington at the annual winter meeting of DOT’s Transportation Research Board. The award criteria includes accomplishments in such areas as technical merit and research, academic performance, professionalism and leadership.
