Miner ID cards transition away from magnetic strip

Beginning Monday, June 2, the magnetic strip on newly printed ID cards will no longer be active. Most campus card readers already use the more secure RFID chip technology. By this fall, S&T will transition to cards without a magnetic strip on the back.

BitLocker installation on Windows computers

BitLocker is a security feature of the Microsoft Windows operating system. The S&T IT team enabled BitLocker on groups of Windows computers over the last several months. On Thursday, May 22, S&T IT will activate BitLocker on all remaining managed computers.

As of Monday, April 7, IT has replaced or updated 90% of computers to Windows 11.

Windows updates will occur 2-6 a.m. Saturday, April 12. If your computer stays on campus, please leave it powered on and connected to the S&T network. If you need to take your computer home, make sure it is connected to your home network and plugged into a power source.

Scharfenberg selected as director of ITRSS

Missouri S&T has selected a new director of Information Technology Research Support Solutions (ITRSS) within the division of Information Technology. Buddy Scharfenberg has helped lead the S&T high-performance computing (HPC) environment team since 2013. His team built the current HPC environment at S&T, as well as the one at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) and is helping lead the implementation of quantum computing at MU.

Exchange calendar scheduling experiencing connection issues, downgraded service

The system that supports Microsoft Exchange calendar requests, Evoko Scheduling System, is currently having connection issues with calendar services. Services for shared conference rooms or other available spaces are not displaying remotely scheduled meetings or reservations.

IT updating Outlook due to security vulnerability

S&T’s IT team will push out an emergency security update for Outlook today (Thursday, Feb. 13) to campus computers. The update may require a reboot. If prompted to reboot your computer, please save your work before the two-hour warning expires.
