Oerther receives AWWA award, recognized as CEP via eminence

Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering, recently received two honors. The American Water Works Association (AWWA) selected Oerther for the Dr. John L. Leal Award. This award recognizes individuals whose careers exemplify improving water quality and protecting public health.

S&T shines in ‘Best of Phelps County’

Missouri S&T was voted into three categories in The Rolla Daily News’ “Best of Phelps County” competition. During the voting period of Sept. 18-Oct. 1, 2017, individuals could vote once daily. Missouri S&T was named the best college and S&T’s Havener Center was named the best event venue. Missouri S&T’s human resources department is the runner-up in the best employment agency category.

  • Reporter Brea Douglas’ story, “New Research Could Detect and Prevent Traumatic Brain Injuries” highlighted S&T’s traumatic brain injury research partnership with Phelps County Regional Medical Center (PCRMC) and Fort Leonard Wood. Dr. Casey Burton, Dr. Catherine Johnson and Dr. Yinfa Ma were featured in the story, which aired Feb. 12 on KOLR TV, based in Springfield, Missouri.

Westenberg receives funding to engage public in biology topics

Dr. Dave Westenberg received funding from Building with Biology to host a public forum on synthetic biology this summer at Missouri S&T. Missouri S&T is one of just over 20 sites selected nationwide. Building with Biology is a nationwide project funded by the National Informal STEM Education Network.

Top transactions paper awards go to S&T

Two electrical and computer engineering professors received awards for top papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility journal in 2017 among the several hundred published in the journal annually. The journal is a publication of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
