Earth’s moon may not technically be a star (the moon is actually a natural satellite) but it will be the focus of the visitors’ night event at Missouri S&T’s observatory Wednesday, Sept. 27. Doors will open at 8 p.m. Clear skies are required for optimal viewing.

Encourage students to submit artwork for exhibit

The Curtis Laws Wilson Library is now accepting submissions for the Fall 2017 Student Art Exhibition, which will run Monday, Oct. 23, through Friday, Dec. 8. Art submissions are due by Monday, Oct. 16. All currently enrolled students are eligible to submit up to three original works for consideration.

Gas leak near campus, no danger

There is a natural gas leak in Rolla near Vienna Road and Vichy Road. The roads surrounding the leak are being closed while Ameren Energy deals with the leak.  Rolla Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Ameren is on site. There is no danger, but students, staff and faculty who live in the area may be inconvenienced by road closures.

Miner Tank proposals due Sept. 29

On the hit TV show, “Shark Tank,” entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to investors. At Missouri S&T’s Miner Tank, faculty and staff will pitch proposals for innovative projects to the Missouri S&T Innovation Team. Here are some key dates for the next Miner Tank:

  • Innovation proposals are due by Friday, Sept. 29. Submit your proposal online.
  • PowerPoint presentations are due by Monday, Oct. 2. Email your PowerPoint to Rose Horton, executive director of strategy, institutional research and assessment, at hortonrm@mst.edu.
  • The Fall Miner Tank will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center.
