Brand symposium offers opportunity for professional development

The second annual S&T Brand Symposium will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Havener Center. This free event is an annual meeting of S&T leaders and communicators. Participants will hear from experts and get connected to the university’s vision for marketing and branding. Morning sessions and lunch are open to all who register at brand.mst.edu/brandsymposium. Some spaces are still available in an afternoon workshop 2:15-3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7: “Improving your communication through improv,” by Nathan Stewart, director of inbound marketing and content strategy at Intouch Solutions, a pharmaceutical marketing agency.

One Card training available for expense reconciliation

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, the University of Missouri System’s One Card reconciliation process will move from JP Morgan PaymentNet to PeopleSoft Travel & Expense (T & E). To learn more about the new features of One Card reconciliation, visit the training website and sign up for a presentation or interactive webinar. Beware of IRS-related scams

The S&T campus community is advised to beware of telephone and email scams. University Police has received reports of scammers targeting international students with claims that they have an unpaid debt to the Internal Revenue Service or the Department of Revenue. Often the scammer will spoof the true telephone number for the organization. The scammer will instruct the victim to purchase a gift card and reveal the card number to the scammer. The scammer then withdraws the funds from the gift cards. Many of these phone scams use threats of jail or bullying techniques to scare the victim into paying.

Calling all Miners for MinerRama

Join the campus community in welcoming new and returning students to S&T during the 8th annual MinerRama. Hosted by the student life department, the free event kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Puck and runs until 2 p.m. MinerRama brings together nearly 200 student organizations and campus programs to showcase ways students can become involved. Interim Chancellor Chris Maples and members of the leadership team will serve free ice cream treats from a tent near the Puck from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The student life staff expects a large group at the event — expect noise around the Puck.

Test of emergency mass notification system planned

The fall test of Missouri S&T’s emergency mass notification system will take place at noon Wednesday, Sept. 13. Is your emergency contact information up-to-date? With the new academic year underway, it is a good time to review your emergency contact information to make sure it is current. To receive emergency alerts and updates via your phone and email from anywhere, follow these procedures for faculty and staff:

  • Go to the UM System myHR website.
  • Sign in using your S&T user ID and password.
  • Click the “Additional Employee Info” box.
  • Click “UM Emergency Information.”
  • Review your phone numbers and email addresses and update if needed. You may enter your phone, cell, text and pager numbers as well as an alternate email address. The alternate personal email address is for emergencies only. The university will only use your official university email to conduct official university business.

Final broadcast of Bluegrass for a Saturday Night planned Aug. 26

Wayne Bledsoe, host of the popular radio show Bluegrass for a Saturday Night, will host his final episode of the show 7-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, on KMST 88.5 FM in Rolla and 96.3 FM in Lebanon, Missouri. Downtown parking reminder

University Police reminds the campus community to be mindful of local parking regulations. There is a 72-hour limit to parking on the streets in the housing subdivision west of Bishop Avenue between 10th Street and University Drive. The area is marked by street signs. The Rolla Police department will patrol the streets and issue citations for parking violations.
