Allada to help transition graduate studies
As the university’s first and only vice provost of graduate studies, Dr. Venkat Allada has led graduate education efforts at Missouri S&T for over a decade. Effective Jan. 1, he now serves as special advisor to the provost to help ensure a smooth transition as the office of graduate studies merges with Missouri S&T’s office of research and sponsored programs. As part of a new organizational structure at S&T, a national search is underway for the position of vice chancellor for research and dean of graduate studies. Read more.
Read More »Lab safety training course required for all graduate students
Missouri S&T’s environmental health and safety department provides a Canvas course, General Laboratory Safety Training (GLST). All Missouri S&T graduate students are required to complete the course before entering a campus laboratory. If you have not previously taken the training, please sign up for GLST. After signing up, you will receive an email with a link to the course in Canvas. The course will take approximately 1-2 hours to complete. It can be taken in multiple increments or one setting, depending on the students’ preference.

Enter Celebration of Nations tee design contest by Jan. 26
Amateur artists and designers are invited to submit original designs for this year’s Celebration of Nations T-shirt by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. The winning designer will receive a $150 gift card to the S&T Store and the shirts will be available at the St. Pat’s parade Saturday, March 17, in downtown Rolla. Counseling services offers various student groups to help students cope with school demands, feel better faster and stay in school happier. Several groups will launch next week, including groups focused on safety, ADHD support and Miners 4 Recovery. Counseling services will soon offer groups focused on mood management, test anxiety and social confidence. Have you stepped up to walking challenge?
Your campus theater is opening its doors from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for four weeks for the “Leach Step Challenge.” The challenge is open to faculty, staff and students. It began Jan. 22 and will end Friday, Feb. 16. If you log 8,000 steps on the Leach Theatre stairs and walkways, you’ll win a free ticket to an upcoming show at Leach.

Gregory Woods, a former staff member who served Missouri S&T for 10 years, died Jan. 1. He joined the university in 1996 and retired in 2006 as a mechanical trades specialist-electrician in physical facilities.

Introducing CAFE
The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) is a new resource at Missouri S&T designed to promote the success of S&T faculty as teaching-scholars throughout all stages of their career. Led by Dr. Larry Gragg, chair, and Dr. Wayne Huebner, co-chair, CAFE was developed in Spring 2017 by the provost’s office, in conjunction with a campus steering committee.
