S&T faculty receive grants for affordable, open educational resources
Six Missouri S&T faculty are working to help students save money on textbooks with grants from the University of Missouri System. The grants are provided through the UM System Affordable & Open Educational Resources (A&OER) initiative. The program encourages faculty experimentation and innovation in finding new, better and less costly ways to deliver learning materials to students. The grants are awarded for three levels of costs and cost savings. The levels and S&T faculty recipients are:

15 programs make U.S. News list of top online graduate offerings
Students interested in pursuing a master’s degree online have 15 nationally ranked programs to choose from at Missouri S&T. U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 Best Online Programs rankings, released today (Tuesday, Jan. 9), include Missouri S&T’s online MBA program, 12 online graduate programs in engineering, and programs that are highly ranked in U.S. News’ non-MBA business and computer information technology categories. Connie Shoemaker, lecturer in arts, languages, and philosophy, has been chosen by the National Art Education Association (NAEA) as the Western Region Art Educator of the Year and the Western Region Secondary Art Educator of the Year.
Read More »Article on industrial-organizational psychology one of most cited in field
Dr. Nancy J. Stone, professor of psychological science, co-authored an article that is ranked seventh among cited articles and book chapters in industrial-organizational psychology textbooks. The article, “Identification and Meta-analytic Assessment of Psychological Constructs Measured in Employment Interviews” was published in the Journal of Applied Psychology in 2001 and ranked relative to 6,654 articles and book chapters.

Three physics students win Schearer Prize
Basu Lamichhane, Chandra Adhikari and Ahmed Ibrahim are winners of the 2017 Schearer Prize, awarded at the Missouri S&T physics department’s annual graduate research competition. The award is named in memory of Laird D. Schearer, the department’s first Curators’ Distinguished Professor of physics.

John Cook, student recruitment specialist and vice chair of Staff Council, announced the winners of staff scholarships at a meeting Dec. 14. The scholarship recipients are:
- Rachelle Martin, a business support specialist in development
- Amy McMillen, a senior academic advisor
- Sylvia Skouby, a development officer
Cudney recognized by ASQ for Six Sigma book
Dr. Beth Cudney, associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering, received the Philip B. Crosby Medal from the American Society for Quality (ASQ). She received the medal as co-author of a “distinguished book contributing significantly to the extension of philosophy and application of the principles, methods or techniques of quality management.”

The master’s thesis of alumna Rachel Rodgers, ChE’09, was recently accepted for publication in Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution. Rodgers’ article, “Phylogenomic analysis of Fundulidae (Teleostei: Cyprinodotiformes) using RNA-sequencing Data” is published in the Dec. 28, 2017, issue of the journal.

Dr. John Myers has been invited to serve on the International Advisory Committee of the Bridge Engineering Institute. Myers is a professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering and the associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Engineering and Computing.

Jessica Gargus, manager of Miner Wellness, received the 2017 BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA Outstanding Advisor award from the NASPA-Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education. Gargus was presented the award in November at the organization’s annual awards banquet.
