Missouri S&T Staff Council recognizes the following individuals for marking their milestone years of service (5, 10, 15, etc.) from June 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2020. Each employee listed received a thank-you postcard from the council. Additionally, Staff Council members delivered gifts to employees who reached 20, 25, 30 and 40 years of service.

Counseling services will host a retirement reception for Dr. Patti Fleck 1-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, outdoors on the north side of Norwood Hall, near the picnic area. Please complete a form to RSVP for a specific time frame by 5 p.m. Monday, May 10. Each 30-minute time frame will be limited to 14 guests.

Academic advising conference series starts in February

The office of undergraduate studies offers a series of advising development sessions for Missouri S&T advisors to help students succeed. The Spring 2018 series will include the following presentations, all scheduled at noon-1:30 p.m. in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center:

  • “Understanding and Engaging Today’s Students,” presented by Dr. Patti J. Fleck, director of counseling services, on Monday, Feb. 5
  • “MyDegree: The New Degree Planning Tool,” presented by Julie Parker, assistant registrar, on Monday, March 5

Counseling services offers “Living with Loss” sessions

Our campus has experienced multiple losses and many within our S&T community continue to mourn. While grief is a personal and individual experience, common reactions include shock, disbelief, sadness, numbness, anger, guilt and confusion. Living with Loss offers a safe space to share experiences, give and receive support, learn about the process of grieving and explore coping strategies. Living with Loss sessions are free and confidential. Dr. Patti J. Fleck, director of counseling services, will facilitate a session at 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13. If you want to participate, please contact counseling services in Room 204 Norwood Hall or by calling 341-4211 for the meeting location.

Fleck publishes on building resilience skills

Dr. Patti J. Fleck co-authored “Bouncing Back: Resilience Skills You Can (And Should) Build Now” with Dr. Mary Chandler Bolin, director of counseling at University of Kentucky. The article was published as the cover story in the winter 2017 edition of Kappa Delta’s Angelos, the official magazine of the Kappa Delta sorority. Fleck is director of counseling, disability support and student wellness.

Fleck earns ROTC’s Andy Yost Award

Dr. Patti Fleck, director of counseling, disability support and student wellness, received the Andy “Ruck Sack” Yost Award for Selfless Service from Missouri S&T’s Army ROTC. Once a year, Army ROTC presents the award to one cadet and one faculty or staff member.
