Organizations often have a department that becomes a target of blame when problems arise. At Missouri S&T, Information Technology (IT) frequently fills this role. Employees may wish for perfect technology delivered promptly without constraints, but this ideal scenario doesn’t reflect reality. Like other departments, IT operates within limitations of policy, investment, and capability. The department works with finite resources in money, personnel, and time to achieve the best results possible for the institution.

Scharfenberg selected as director of ITRSS

Missouri S&T has selected a new director of Information Technology Research Support Solutions (ITRSS) within the division of Information Technology. Buddy Scharfenberg has helped lead the S&T high-performance computing (HPC) environment team since 2013. His team built the current HPC environment at S&T, as well as the one at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MU) and is helping lead the implementation of quantum computing at MU.

Exchange calendar scheduling experiencing connection issues, downgraded service

The system that supports Microsoft Exchange calendar requests, Evoko Scheduling System, is currently having connection issues with calendar services. Services for shared conference rooms or other available spaces are not displaying remotely scheduled meetings or reservations.

IT updating Outlook due to security vulnerability

S&T’s IT team will push out an emergency security update for Outlook today (Thursday, Feb. 13) to campus computers. The update may require a reboot. If prompted to reboot your computer, please save your work before the two-hour warning expires.

Windows 11 transition progress and Dell bulk buy opportunity

In 2023, S&T’s information technology team began focusing efforts on and communicating to employees about the transition to the Windows 11 operating system so campus computers comply with UM System information security policies and guidelines. This fall Microsoft will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system.
