Speaker bringing 96 years of life experiences to Stoffer lecture
Dr. Bill James, professor emeritus of chemistry at S&T, will present the third annual James O. Stoffer Lecture Series at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, in Room G3 Schrenk Hall. His lecture is titled “Anecdotes from the Lifetime Experiences of a 96-year-old Emeritus Professor of Chemistry.” Prior to the lecture, a social gathering to honor James will be held 3-4 p.m. in the commons area on the third floor of Schrenk Hall, next to the elevator.

All pre-tenure tenure-track faculty, and pre-promotion non-tenure-track faculty are invited to a happy hour 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Public House Brewing Co. in Rolla. The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence is sponsoring this gathering for early career faculty to get to know their colleagues and the new cadre of master mentors in an informal setting.

Tomorrow is STEP UP! Day
Friday, Sept. 28, is STEP UP! Day at Missouri S&T. All are welcome to attend a STEP UP! signing and group picture at 1 p.m. in front of the Havener Center. Students with business ideas can compete for prize money
Missouri S&T students with entrepreneurial visions can advance their ideas and win prize money by participating in the Entrepreneur Quest (EQ) Student Accelerator, a new University of Missouri System program. The program offers award money from $5,000 to $30,000 based on how far students go in the competition. Students can learn more during a workshop titled “Business Model Canvas” 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in Room G-2 of the Interdisciplinary Engineering (IDE) Building.

Oct. 1 is deadline for student commencement speaker applications
Graduating seniors, master’s degree students and Ph.D. students from each college are encouraged to apply for selection as a student speaker for their Winter 2018 commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15. The speakers, who are selected through an application process and competition, must be members of the graduating class they plan to address.

Guides needed for STEM girls’ conference
Women are needed to volunteer as group guides for attendees of the 19th annual Expanding Your Horizons conference, which will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at S&T. The conference introduces seventh- and eighth-grade girls to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. The event brings more than 450 Missouri students to campus.
