Siddesh Umapathi, a Ph.D. candidate in chemistry, placed first among 18 contestants in S&T’s three-minute thesis (3MT) competition on Feb. 7. Each participant had three minutes to explain the significance of his or her research project to a non-specialist audience.

Umapathi’s presentation was titled “Keep the Cars Running: Hydrogen as a Potential Fuel.” He will move on to the regional 3MT competition March 20-22 at the annual meeting of the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools in St. Louis. Graduate students from across the region will present their research and compete for a spot at the national competition.
