UM System Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force announces recommendations

Following the completion of a system-wide audit of diversity, equity and inclusion efforts and practices at the University of Missouri System, the university system’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force has released its recommendations for how the university and its campuses can proceed in addressing the issues identified within the report. The audit, conducted by diversity consulting firm IBIS, was part of a series of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives outlined by the University of Missouri Board of Curators on Nov. 9, 2015. Filming of ‘active shooter’ video planned Dec. 11

Missouri S&T’s Police Department, in conjunction with the S&T marketing and communications department, will film an instructional video at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, inside and on the north side of the Engineering Management Building. If you are in the building at this time, you may hear a commotion and see a camera crew. A police officer playing the role of a shooter will act out scenes with student and staff actors. During filming, signage on building entrances and around campus will clearly indicate that filming for a simulated, controlled event is taking place. Missouri S&T Police officers will be stationed near the filming location.

Blackboard will be discontinued Dec. 29, assistance available

Blackboard will be unavailable beginning Dec. 29, instead of Dec. 31, as previously announced. The Educational Technology (EdTech) staff will available every day to assist faculty during and after finals week. The office will be closed for the holidays from Friday, Dec. 23, to Monday, Jan. 1. For assistance transferring course materials from Blackboard to Canvas, the EdTech staff will be available in the Curtis Laws Wilson Library 1-4 p.m. every day until Friday, Dec. 23.

Chancellor’s brunch brings cheer, see pictures online

Employees celebrated the season with caroling, conversation and cookie-decorating at the Chancellor’s Holiday Brunch Dec. 6 at Hasselmann Alumni House. Check out photos on Missouri S&T’s Flickr account. In addition to enjoying refreshments and fellowship, attendees helped make the holidays brighter for the local community by donated toys and food for those in need.

Fire and Ice — study abroad takes students to Iceland

Students can fulfill their experiential learning requirement and earn six credit hours next summer during the study abroad trip, “Heroes of Fire and Ice: A Three-Week Study Abroad to Iceland,” May 29-June 17. Dr. Eric Bryan and Dr. Anne Cotterill, associate professors of English and technical communication, will teach courses. Students will spend the first two weeks in Reykjavick, Iceland’s capital city, offering a mixture of modern and medieval Iceland. Celebrate at Chancellor’s holiday brunch Dec. 6

Missouri S&T faculty and staff are invited to celebrate the holidays with refreshments, piano music, caroling and great company at the Chancellor’s Holiday Brunch 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Dec. 6, at the Hasselmann Alumni House. The elves in the “Merry Miners Workshop” need your help to make the holidays brighter for those less fortunate. Guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or a canned food donation to give to those in need within our community.

Testing Center fills for finals week

During finals week, Missouri S&T’s Testing Center is overbooked. The staff is working to make alternative arrangements; however, you may receive an email stating the Testing Center is unable to administer a final exam. Students and faculty will be notified as quickly as possible.

Campus master plan updates set for Dec. 7

Students, faculty and staff are invited to open forums to review progress and provide input on Missouri S&T’s campus master plan. The meetings will be 12:30-2 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. Please attend the forum that works best with your schedule. The campus master plan focuses on the physical campus environment (buildings, facilities and grounds).
