Walt Branson, vice chancellor for finance and administration, shared an overview of the current budget situation with the campus community and answered audience questions at an open forum held Feb. 3 in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The slides from his presentation can be downloaded from S&T’s finance and administration website.

Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 8, tickets to the March 4 concert by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma will be distributed at the Leach Theatre Box Office. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are strictly limited to two per person, and a valid Missouri S&T ID is required. The distribution schedule is as follows:

• Wednesday, Feb. 8 — Tickets are available to Missouri S&T students with a valid student ID.
• Thursday, Feb. 9 — Tickets are available to Missouri S&T faculty, staff and retirees with a valid S&T ID.
• Friday, Feb. 10 — Tickets will be available to the general public.

The Missouri S&T Staff Council’s advocacy committee represents and promotes the interests and concerns of staff. As a staff member, you can contact the committee to have your voice heard. Career opportunities and employer relations (COER) seeks volunteers to staff the Spring Career Fair, scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the Gale Bullman Building. The Smart Living signature area wants to develop research networks to stimulate smart living research and to be poised for action when calls for grant proposals are announced. A smart living research networking session will be held 2:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, in Room 216 McNutt Hall. If you would like to be a presenter, please submit one or two PowerPoint slides to Nancy Stone by the end of the day today (Monday, Feb. 6).

Missouri S&T will host Steel Industry Day 10 a.m.-2p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Havener Center. Representatives from major steel producers, foundries and suppliers will promote the steel industry and recruit for internships and full-time jobs. Free food will be provided throughout the event, including a barbecue lunch.

All you need is a thirst for knowledge to attend the “Research on Tap” series on the second Wednesday of every month at Public House Brewing Company in Rolla. The next meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Public House Brewing Company in Rolla. Dr. David Westenberg, associate professor of biological sciences, and Frank Marshall, a graduate student in chemistry, will talk about their research.
