The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, to view Venus. Nearly half of the planet will be illuminated, appearing as a crescent in the night sky. The observatory is located at 1550 N. Bishop Ave., next to S&T’s Stonehenge replica, north of McNutt Hall and west of St. Patrick’s Lane. The sky must be clear for observing.

Students and faculty requiring alternate test times, make-up exams or other testing arrangements are asked to notify the Testing Center at least seven business days before the test date. The Testing Center does not accept same-day testing requests. Students must make arrangements with both faculty and the Testing Center. Faculty members are reminded to submit a Faculty Test Request Form when students request alternative testing arrangements, including make-up exams.

The Winter 2017 newsletter for the Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation (RE-CAST) University Transportation Center is available online. RE-CAST is a Tier-1 university transportation center led by Missouri S&T in partnership with Rutgers University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Miami and Southern University-Baton Rouge. Randy Russell, husband of Judy Russell, administrative assistant for mining and nuclear engineering, died Jan. 29. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 2), at Teague and Sons Funeral Home, located at 242 Main St. in Newburg, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Teague and Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery in Newburg.

As part of Black History Month, a poetry event, “Poetry is Power: Race and Patriotism,” will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center. A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. The campus is invited to attend.
