Early Career faculty forum to focus on grant award management
All early career faculty are invited to hear about grant award management from sponsored programs representatives 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Room 204 Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Learn how to successfully complete a project by meeting reporting requirements and other requirements. Refreshments and networking start at 3:45 p.m.

Ghoul all out on Halloween
Halloween is coming and the campus will be crawling with festivities on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Here are seven ways to slay the holiday:
- Stop by the S&T Store for a costume contest and Halloween-themed games, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Come in costume to Staff Council’s Fall appreciation event for staff, 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Puck.
- Keep your costume on and warm up with a bowl of chili at the engineering management and systems engineering department’s annual Halloween costume contest and chili cook-off, with lunch served 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Enter Missouri S&T’s carved pumpkin contest by posting a picture of your S&T-themed pumpkin on Missouri S&T’s Facebook page by noon.
- Bring your little goblins to trick-or-treat at “Trunk-or-Treat” 4-8 p.m. in the University Commons parking lot, Lot H, located on University Drive.
- Delve into a deeply disturbing den at the Haunted Mine, 6-11 p.m. at the Missouri S&T Experimental Mine at 12350 Spencer Road.
- Last but not least, make sure you have completed your annual University of Missouri System training requirements by midnight.

Annual enrollment began Oct. 16 for benefit-eligible faculty and staff and will end Friday, Oct. 27. Enroll now through myHR. If you do not enroll – even if you wish to waive coverage – you will default to the Healthy Savings Plan and pay taxes on your monthly premiums. In conjunction with the University of Missouri System, Missouri S&T is contributing to a systemwide plan for all four UM System campuses, named the Missouri Compact for Education, Research, Engagement and Economic Development. Alumni and friends are invited to honor the unmatched career of Jerry Bayless (CE’59, MS CE’62), associate professor emeritus of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. The new president-elect of the nation’s oldest engineering society will share her vision of the profession’s future in a guest lecture. Robin A. Kemper, a senior risk engineering consultant for Zurich Services Corp., will serve as president of the American Society of Civil Engineers starting in 2018. Stonehenge plaque honoring Joe Senne will be unveiled
A new plaque honoring Dr. Joseph H. Senne Jr. will be unveiled at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Missouri S&T’s Stonehenge replica. Senne, a professor emeritus and chair of civil engineering for at S&T 20 years, died in 2016. In addition to civil engineering, he was an avid astronomer who made the astronomical calculations for S&T’s Stonehenge replica, completed in 1984.

Missouri S&T’s Office of Professional Leadership and Campus Engagement (PLACE) will close, effective Sunday, Dec. 31, due to budget reductions. Leadership staff members within the Division of Student Affairs, along with some student representatives, are reviewing programming and services provided by PLACE to determine which will be continued in the spring 2018 semester and beyond.

Missouri S&T’s mindfulness-based stress reduction meditation program has been affected by recent changes. Due to budget reductions, the University of Missouri System’s Total Rewards program will not fund the eight-week, in-person class previously offered on Missouri S&T’s campus. Online versions of the class are available.
