Steel bridge, concrete canoe design teams make a splash

Two Missouri S&T student design teams excelled at competitions over the weekend. The Steel Bridge Design Team earned first place at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2018 Mid-Continent Student Conference. The team now qualifies for and will compete at the national competition May 25-26. The Concrete Canoe Design Team earned fourth place at the American Society of Civil Engineers’ 2018 Mid-Continent Student Conference.

Repairs to Kingshighway planned tonight

Crews will install a waterline on Kingshighway near the intersection of Bridge School Road in Rolla, starting at 9 p.m. this evening (Monday, April 23). Kingshighway will remain open during the waterline construction but will be reduced to one lane intermittently during nighttime hours. Delays will be expected and drivers are asked to seek alternate routes. The city of Rolla’s department of public works is coordinating the project.

All encouraged to attend ‘Walk a Mile in Her Shoes’

One in six American women are victims of sexual assault, according to the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN). “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” asks men to literally walk a mile in high-heeled shoes to help start the conversation on gender relations. Join the Miner Wellness team at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Havener Center for a resource fair. The walk will start at 6 p.m. Shoes will be provided.

Submit a proposal for South Africa exchange

The University of Missouri South Africa Education Program (UMSAEP) Committee invites proposals for 2019 for faculty interested in participating in the academic exchange between the University of Missouri System and South Africa. Opportunities include exchanges with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) located near Cape Town and collaborative projects between the University of Missouri System and new or existing educational partners in South Africa.

Employees sought to serve at Fort Leonard Wood through IPA

Fort Leonard Wood seeks two Missouri S&T employees to serve at the fort for a two-year period as a temporary assignment through the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA). In this program, the university is reimbursed as the employees retain their S&T salaries and benefits, and then returns to S&T after the two-year experience. The positions are for a project manager and a technical communications advisor.

Visitors coming to campus for Missouri Academy of Science meeting

Missouri S&T will host the Missouri Academy of Science Friday and Saturday, April 27-28. The junior division will compete in the Havener Center on April 27 and the senior division will compete in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall on April 28.
