Today’s retirement reception to honor Clark, Gelles
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business, along with S&T’s department of mathematics and statistics and economics department, will host a retirement reception for Dr. Stephen Clark and Dr. Greg Gelles 2-4 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. The two department chairs have each served S&T for three decades.

The next Staff Council meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Meramec-Gasconade Room of the Havener Center. Staff Council meetings are open to all faculty, staff and students. You do not have to be a member of Staff Council to attend meetings or participate in many of the committees.

Expanded, renovated Fitness Center opens today
The newly expanded and renovated S&T Fitness Center opened today (Monday, May 6). The center is open for use but some work will continue to finish the facility.

General Faculty meeting planned tomorrow
The Missouri S&T General Faculty will hold its annual spring meeting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Topics include recognition of patent awards, and reports from Dr. Mun Choi, president of the University of Missouri System, and Dr. Michael Bruening, president of S&T’s Faculty Senate.

Celebrate student artists tonight
A reception to honor the artwork of S&T students will be held 5-7 p.m. today (Monday, May 6) in the atrium of the Havener Center. At 6 p.m., the Renaissance Student Award will be presented. The award, which includes a $1,000 prize, will be presented by S&T’s arts, languages, and philosophy department. Awards for students in French, film studies and Russian will also be given out.

Honor Barb Palmer at retirement reception
Barb Palmer, office support associate in the office of the provost, will retire after serving Missouri S&T for nearly 30 years. Celebrate with her 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in St. Pat’s Ballroom C of the Havener Center. Light refreshments will be served.

S&T’s Alpha Epsilon Pi chapter invites everyone to participate in the “We Walk to Remember” event to remember the victims of the Holocaust, starting at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, beginning at the Puck and ending at approximately 2:15 p.m. at the Havener Center.

The holy month of Ramadan will be approximately May 5 to June 5 this year. During this time, practicing Muslims will be fasting from dawn until dusk. Fasting means no food or water and Ramadan celebration often involves gatherings and prayers late into the night.
