Today: Learn about black holes, Milky Way’s darkest secret
Dr. Marco Cavaglia, professor of physics, and Dr. Shun Saito, assistant professor of physics, will present a public lecture about the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, via Zoom. Their lecture is titled “Black Holes and the Milky Way’s Darkest Secret.

Students have the option to either return to campus after Thanksgiving break to attend their in-person classes or complete the final two weeks of classes remotely. If you are a student and need remote-learning accommodations, please work with your instructors and academic advisors.

Distinguished colleagues and dear friends,
Last week, we recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases at S&T since classes began in August. Cases are on the rise in Rolla, in our state and across the nation. Given this situation as we enter this final week before Thanksgiving break, it is essential that all of us take even greater precautions against the spread of COVID-19. We plan to return after Thanksgiving break to successfully complete this challenging semester, but it will take every one of us working together for the common cause to make that happen.
Chancellor’s Holiday Brunch canceled, office parties discouraged
S&T Chancellor Mo Dehghani has cancelled the Chancellor’s Holiday Brunch due to the risks associated with the spread of COVID-19. He also strongly discourages any holiday gatherings among students, faculty and staff such as office parties or carry-in luncheons.

The exterior renovation to Curtis Laws Wilson Library is proceeding on schedule. The contractors will build overhead protection at the main entrance as the work proceeds to the south side. The main entrance will remain open throughout the project.
