Counseling services, financial aid offices closed today

Two offices are temporarily closed today (Wednesday, Aug. 1) for staff development.

  • The counseling services office will reopen at 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, for students, faculty and staff. For more information, call the office at 341-4211 and listen to the entire voice message.
  • The student financial assistance office will re-open Thursday, Aug. 2, and resume regular business hours of 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Memorial service for Dr. Mack Daily planned Aug. 3

Dr. Madison McDonald “Mack” Daily Sr. of Rolla, professor emeritus of engineering management, passed away July 22. He was 86. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla. Beginning at 10 a.m., his family will receive friends prior to the service.

Learn about football at women’s clinic on Friday

The Miner Football team will host a women’s clinic 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Pre-game and post-game socials are optional. The clinic will include a “Football 101” session, a formation walkthrough with position-specific teaching, and football drills that the S&T football players run through daily. All drills are optional. Please wear tennis shoes to perform the drills.

Orientation for transfer students planned Aug. 16

Transfer Transitions, an orientation day for new transfer students, will start at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Hall. Participants will learn about campus resources to help with their studies and path to future employment. Students will eat lunch with a faculty member, participate in a resource-finding and team-building competition, and learn about campus life from current students. Dinner and awards will conclude the event.

Presentation planned on Ph.D. program for educational leadership, policy

Dr. Jennifer Fellabaum-Toston, assistant teaching professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, will present an informational session about MU’s Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) doctoral program at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, in Room 208 Norwood Hall. The session is open to anyone who may be interested in applying for this program.

Learn about women’s roles during Civil War

Connie Grisier, historical administrator and interpreter, will present a lecture at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Her lecture is titled “The Changing Role of Women during the American Civil War.” Grisier’s lecture is part of the library’s summer exhibition, “Impressions of the Civil War in the West,” which will run through Friday, Aug. 31.

Save during tax holiday, shop bookstore for Beats deal

The S&T Store encourages customers to shop during Missouri’s tax-holiday weekend, Aug. 3-5. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies and computers are exempt from sales tax during this time period. The store will be open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3; and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, and Sunday, Aug. 5. Customers can pre-order online at thesandtstore.com.

Correction: Air conditioning outage to affect limited area

A previous message stated in error that the Campus Support Facility will not have air conditioning Wednesday, Aug. 1. Most of the building will have air conditioning, although a small portion will not. The offices that will be affected by the A/C outage are:

  • Room G-5 and the offices within (Rooms B, B1, B2, B3 and B4)
  • Room G-7 (mailroom)
