SBTDC encourages small businesses to notice new law

The Defend Trade Secrets Act (DTSA) has been signed into law, which extends the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) of 1996. Although big business may have been the motivation for its passage, small businesses may be able to leverage significant benefits from the new law, according to the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Missouri S&T. Move vehicles from Area X Lot 20 on Friday

Remove bikes from campus racks by June 4

University Police will clear all campus bike racks before the start of the summer session of classes. Please remove all bikes from campus racks by 6 a.m. Saturday, June 4. University Police will remove any remaining bikes later that day. Abandoned bikes will be held at the University Police office, located in Room G-10 Campus Support Facility, for 6 months.

Staff Day agenda announced

Staff Appreciation Day 2016 will be held 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, in the Havener Center. The day’s activities will include an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. in the St. Pat’s Ballrooms, with games, activities, bingo, raffle, silent auction and entertainment taking place 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Staff should bring their IDs for a free lunch 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. A food auction will end the day between 2 and 3 p.m. Additionally, an updated list of raffle prizes is available on the Staff Council website.

Limited Testing Center services through summer

Due to the construction around Norwood Hall, the Testing Center has closed its main office in Room G-10 Norwood Hall. Staff are now located in Rooms G-11 and 203 Norwood Hall. Limited services will be provided in Room 203 Norwood Hall throughout the summer.

Pre-retirement seminar telepresence May 26

There will be a pre-retirement telepresence seminar 3-5 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in Room 201-A Curtis Laws Wilson Library. This seminar will cover types of retirement plans, retirement eligibility, pension planning, retirement calculations, steps to retirement and more. Death of Dr. Wilbur Paul Tappmeyer, visitation today

Dr. Wilbur Paul Tappmeyer, professor emeritus of chemistry at Missouri S&T, died on Monday, May 16. Visitation will be held at noon today (Thursday, May 19) at Rolla First Baptist Church, located at 801 N. Cedar St. A celebration of Dr. Tappmeyer’s life will follow the visitation. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Manor or Phelps County Hospice in care of Null and Son Funeral Home.

RESPOND program coming to Missouri S&T

On Tuesday, July 12, counseling, disability support and student wellness will offer a full day of training to help you gain the confidence and skill to effectively assist someone in distress. It can be hard to know how to approach a person you are concerned about and to ask important questions to help them seek help. The training is free and will be offered at Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla, 1000 N. Main St. A light breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

SBTDC hires new business counselor to help regional businesses

The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC), operated by the office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED), recently hired Karen Leatherman as a business counselor to provide assistance to small businesses in the region. She is based in the SBTDC office, which serves nine counties in east-central Missouri.
