The open forum on Missouri S&T’s brand identity evolution, scheduled for 1:30-2:30 p.m. today in the Missouri-Ozark Room of the Havener Center, has been cancelled. The marketing and communications staff has been dealing with many media inquiries this week related to events stemming from this campus, the UM System and the Columbia campus, and anticipates additional media activity today.

Dr. Richard Brow, Curators’ Professor of materials science and engineering, is now chair of that department. He succeeds Dr. Wayne Huebner, who served as chair from January 2007 through last Wednesday, Oct. 28.

Learn more about Missouri S&T’s new brand identity initiative at a series of open forums in November and December. S&T’s marketing and communications department is hosting the sessions to inform the campus community of the new branding initiative and goals.

While the university continues to inspect and address issues at the Chancellor’s Residence on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus, Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader and her family are moving a second time this semester. In August, the chancellor and her family moved into Missouri S&T’s Residential College. This week, the Schraders will move off-campus to a residence that is better suited for both a family and an extended stay, located in the Quarry Subdivision east of Rolla.

The campus community is encouraged to attend an open forum to learn more about the university’s tobacco-free campus initiative and to provide input on the process.

Dr. Wayne Huebner, chair of materials science and engineering, has announced that he will step down as chair of that department effective Jan. 1, 2016. Huebner plans to resume his previous role as professor of ceramic engineering within the department.

The Missouri S&T Solar House Team’s Nest Home is on display in Irvine, California, as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon. The home is also up for the People’s Choice Awards. You can help the team by voting for the Nest Home to win the People’s Choice Award. The team finished the weekend in first place overall in the competition. Check the complete standings here.

Dr. Ian Ferguson, vice provost and dean of the College of Engineering and Computing since August 2014, has announced plans to step down from that role for personal and family medical reasons.
