Dr. Wayne Huebner, chair of materials science and engineering, has announced that he will step down as chair of that department effective Jan. 1, 2016. Huebner plans to resume his previous role as professor of ceramic engineering within the department.
“I’ve enjoyed my tenure as chair of this fine department, but I believe it’s time for me to step down and let the next generation of faculty set the stage for the future,” says Huebner.
“We have been fortunate to have Wayne lead one of the nation’s top materials science and engineering departments for nearly nine years,” says Provost Robert Marley. “I’m thankful for his service and for his plans to continue to serve the university as a member of the faculty.”
Huebner served as chair of materials science and engineering for nine years. Previously, he served as vice provost for research and sponsored programs and as chair of ceramic engineering. He joined the S&T faculty in 1991. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in ceramic engineering from S&T.
