Teams of students from five regional high schools tested their STEM knowledge at a competition held on campus on March 18. The TEAMS program is an annual STEM competition that challenges middle and high school students to work in teams and apply math and science in practical ways to solve everyday engineering challenges.
The event saw 10 individual teams from five regional high schools test and engage in STEM-related activities. The five high schools participating were: Bourbon High School from Bourbon, Mo.; Centralia High School from Centralia, Mo.; Montgomery County High School from Montgomery City, Mo.; Potosi High School from Potosi, Mo.; and Springfield Catholic High School from Springfield, Mo.
The students from these schools competed in testing, heard a guest lecture from faculty and questioned a student panel.
The winners of the regional competition at Missouri S&T were:
Division one:
-9/10 grade level: Bourbon High School, coached by Terri Rowden.
-11/12 grade level: Bourbon High School, coached by Terri Rowden.
Division three:
-9/10 grade level: First place — Springfield Catholic High School, sublevel A, coached by Stephanie Coulter. Second place — Montgomery County High School, sublevel A, coached by Bernie Bader.
-11/12 grade level: First place — Springfield Catholic High School, sublevel C, coached by Stephanie Coulter. Second place — Springfield Catholic High School, sublevel B, coached by Stephanie Coulter. Third place — Montgomery County High School, sublevel B, coached by Bernie Bader.
