Hopefully you did. Several weeks ago, environmental health and safety began placing green stickers above light switches across campus. The stickers are to remind everyone to turn off lights when leaving an unoccupied room. Why is this important? In fiscal year 2008, Missouri S&T's electric usage averaged 3,166,934 KWH (kilo watt hours) a month. This translates into an average electric bill of $249,476.14 for each month. Watch for more information about conserving electricity in the weeks ahead.

Starting on Thursday, July 31, emails sent to umr.edu will not be delivered and umr.edu websites will not be redirected to the mst.edu web domain.
Here’s what you need to do (if you haven’t already) to ensure a seamless transition after July 31:
- Update your umr.edu bookmarks and email contacts to mst.edu. A list of commonly accessed Missouri S&T links is available on the IT department’s name change resource site.
- Let your friends, family, alumni, potential employers, potential research grant sources and other academic partners know about these upcoming changes. They won’t be able to email you at umr.edu or open umr.edu web links after July 31.
We appreciate the patience of all students, faculty and staff during this process of renaming our institution. If you have questions about any of these issues or need further assistance, please call the IT Help Desk at 573-341-HELP.
Cleaning work scheduled for this week in the Curtis Laws Wilson Library plaza area has been postponed due to the rain.

Missouri S&T continually seeks to reduce its environmental footprint. The campus has improved paper, battery and aluminum can recycling. Now it is time to decrease the use of natural resources. In 2007, S&T purchased more than 9.5 million sheets of paper, or more than 1,300 sheets of paper for every faculty, staff and student. One of the Environmental Management System's (EMS) objectives is to reduce the amount of paper used on campus by 40 percent by the end of this year.
You can help achieve this goal as we continue to build Missouri S&T's Green Initiative:
- Ask printing services to use recycled paper
- Reduce line spacing and decrease margins on Word documents
- Do not print e-mails or any other documents unless absolutely necessary
- Purchase post-consumer content paper for your department
- Utilize the UM system procurement contracts for competitively priced recycled paper
- Encourage the practice of paperless meetings
- Utilize the duplex feature on your office printer (if available)
Contact Wade Jadwin at 341-4089 if you have any questions about our EMS program or paper reduction.

With the planned elimination of the Missouri S&T Golf Course to make way for the university's Innovation Park, the campus golfers are seeking another option for their sport. Currently, the Rolla West Alternative #3 features a golf course.
