  • ‘Best paper award’ goes to Brinker

    Katelyn Brinker, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, received the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference in Houston in May. Her paper is titled “Embedded Chipless RFID Measurement Methodology for Microwave Materials Characterization.”

    Brinker brings home IEEE award

    Katelyn R. Brinker, a graduate student in electrical and computer engineering, is co-winner of the Alton B. Zerby and Carl T. Koerner Outstanding Student Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers honor society, Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN). The award recognizes academic excellence, character and service and has been won by S&T students six times in its 52-year history.

    University receives $1.4 million grant for transportation center

    Missouri S&T is one of 35 universities to receive a grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to establish a University Transportation Center (UTC). Missouri S&T received a $1.4 million UTC “tier 1” grant to develop robotic tools to inspect and maintain bridges and portions of highway from the air or from the side of the structure.     Director of TTED writes for IEEE magazine

    The June 2016 issue of IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement features an article written by Keith Strassner, director of Missouri S&T’s office of technology transfer and economic development (TTED). The article, titled “The Value of Ideas – Intellectual Property,” reviews the various types of intellectual property (IP), methods of protection and recent issues against the backdrop of the ever-increasing importance of IP and other intellectual assets as critical components of the economic development mission of universities, research hospitals and non-profit research foundations. The article includes an introduction by Dr. Reza Zoughi, Schlumberger Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering.

    Zoughi gives IEEE Distinguished Lecture

    Dr. Reza Zoughi, the Schlumberger Distinguished Professor of electrical and computer engineering, delivered the IEEE Distinguished Lecture on Friday, Oct. 2, at Iowa State University’s College of Engineering. Zoughi’s talk, titled “Evolution of Microwave and Millimeter Wave Imaging for NDE Applications,” provided an overview of new, 3-D imaging techniques for non-destructive evaluation of materials.
