Read More »A research team led by Dr. Nicholas Leventis, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of chemistry, has developed aerogels with a rubber-like elasticity that can “remember” their original shape. The research was published May 2 in the American Chemical Society journal Chemistry of Materials. Leventis’ co-authors are Dr. Lia Sotiriou-Leventis, professor of chemistry; graduate students Suraj Donthula, Chandana Mandal, and Adnan Malik Saeed; and summer interns Theodora Leventis and James Schisler.

Read More »Dr. Pi-yu “Beatrice” Cheng, former teaching associate in chemistry and wife of Dr. Franklin Y. Cheng, Curators’ Professor emeritus of civil engineering at Missouri S&T, died on Dec. 19. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at the Santa Barbara Cemetery Chapel in Santa Barbara, California. Arrangements are under the direction of McDermott-Crockett Mortuary. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara with Sansum Clinic or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Dr. Cheng joined the Missouri S&T faculty in 1985 as a visiting assistant professor in life sciences and later became a teaching associate in chemistry.
