The University of Missouri Research Board awarded 10 grants to Missouri S&T faculty members in June. The 12-month grants provide seed money for research initiatives with significant potential for a high return on investment. The recipients and their projects are:
- Dr. Eric Bryan, associate professor of English and technical communication, who received $5,200 for his project, “Pragmatic Meaning in the Medieval North.”
- Dr. Amitava Choudhury, assistant professor of chemistry, who received $20,000 for his project, “An Approach Towards Stable Non-oxide Superionic Conductor.”
- Dr. Dimitri Feys, assistant professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, who received $46,306 for his project, “Understanding Early Age Behavior of Cement: Rheology and Hydration Kinetics of Pure C3S and C3A.”
- Dr. Wenqing Hu, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics, who received $5,000 for his project, “Multiscale Stochastic Differential Equations.”
- Dr. Ana-Maria Ichim, assistant professor of economics, who received $25,667 for her project, “Cost Efficiency of European Banks: Crisis Aftermath.”
- Dr. Nan Jiang, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics, who received $5,000 for her project, “Efficient Ensemble Methods for Predictive Simulations of the Boussinesq Systems Subject to Uncertainty.”
- Dr. Marek Locmelis, assistant professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering, who received $11,000 for his project, “Development of Innovative Geochemical Redox Proxies.”
- Dr. Joontaek Park, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering, who received $33,525 for his project, “Rheological Model for Analysis of Polymeric Liquids.”
- Dr. Daniel Shank, assistant professor of psychological science, who received $24,255 for his project, “Affective Impressions of Groups Versus Individuals in Interactions.”
- Dr. Zhaozheng Yin, assistant professor of computer science, who received $24,000 for his project, “Interplay Between Worker Behaviors and Group Energetics in Ant Colony.”
