Huang joins editorial board for gene therapy journal
Dr. Yue-Wern Huang, a professor of toxicology and nanomedicine in S&T’s department of biological sciences, has been invited to join the editorial board of Current Gene Therapy. The publication is a bi-monthly peer-reviewed journal featuring articles about basic research and clinical applications of gene and cell therapy of genetic disease.

Dr. Dave Riggins, Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of aerospace engineering, was recently elected Associate Fellow of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics). He was recognized in January at the 2018 AIAA Sci-Tech Conference in Kissimmee, Florida.

“The Elements of Brand-building in Higher Education: The Role of Strategy, Research and Internal Engagement,” by Andrew Careaga, executive director of marketing and communications, was published in the winter 2017-18 edition of the Journal of Education Advancement & Marketing. The invited paper describes Missouri S&T’s branding initiatives during the 2007-08 name change from UMR and more recent branding efforts associated with S&T’s strategic plan. The abstract is available online.

Amanda Kossuth, an academic advisor for Missouri S&T’s freshmen engineering program, was appointed Missouri Liaison for Region 7 of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). In January, she was invited to serve on the organization’s Advisor Training and Development Steering Committee.

Missouri S&T will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit with the Higher Learning Commission Monday, Oct. 8, and Tuesday, Oct. 9, by a team representing the commission. In preparation for the site visit, the campus community is invited to review and provide feedback on materials created for the evaluation by Wednesday, Feb. 28. Additionally, faculty, staff and students are invited to learn about the accreditation process and provide feedback at open forums, which will be held:
- 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center
- 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center

Read More »Drop by library to see Rolla Mural restoration
Local artist Dan Woodward is restoring “The Rolla Mural” on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library, where it will remain after his restoration work is finished in March. First created by Sidney Larson, the mural depicts the history of Rolla from 1844 to the 1950s. The 5-foot-by-22-foot piece depicts several historical figures, moments and buildings in Rolla’s history. It was originally commissioned by Edward Sowers in 1952 and displayed in the Sowers Building, which houses The Rolla Daily News. The Sowers family donated the mural to Missouri S&T, where it will be on public display in the library.
