Newkirk, professor of materials science and engineering, delivered an invited paper at the International Conference on Plasticity, Damage and Fracture in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Jan. 7. The paper is titled “Selective Laser Melting of Fe-Co Intermetallics and Resulting Grain Boundary Performance.” This is part of his research with the Kansas City National Security Campus. He is investigating improved permanent magnetic materials.
