Elections for the 2018-19 year for vacant Staff Council positions are coming up. Nominations are due Friday, June 22. You may nominate yourself or another staff member. Staff Council seats will be vacant in the employee categories of: secretarial/clerical, administrative/professional and craft/maintenance.

Staff Day brings in $2,000 for scholarships

Employees collectively donated $2,000 to S&T’s employee scholarship program through the food auction during Staff Day on May 30. The proceeds include a $1,000 matching donation from Chris Maples, interim chancellor, and Sara Marcus. Scholarship applications are currently being accepted for the fall 2018 semester. How the West was fun – Staff Day videos posted online

New council to advise on student orientation

Learn about civil war during lecture

Raab, adjunct instructor in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, will present a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 14, on the second floor of Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Her talk is titled “Unleashing the Wolf: General Order No. 11 and Civil War on the Western Border.”

Beware of scam

University Police has received a complaint of attempted fraud related to a telephone call from someone claiming to be with S&T’s police department with a “spoofed” phone number that appeared to be University Police’s number, 341-4300. The caller said the student owed money and threatened arrest if the student did not pay the caller. The department reminds the campus community to keep the following tips in mind:

Parking lot to close temporarily for fireworks

Parking Area M, Lot 36, located near the Engineering Research Laboratory, will close at 1 p.m. Friday, June 15, and at 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, for fireworks displays by Explosives Camp participants. Smoke testing continues

The City of Rolla’s public works department is smoke testing sanitary sewer lines in town. Smoke testing continues on the west side of S&T’s campus today (Wednesday, June 13). You may notice smoke and crews working near these buildings: Bertelsmeyer Hall, Bureau of Mines buildings, Campus Support Facility, Chancellor’s Residence, Engineering Management Building, Havener Center, McNutt Hall, power plant, Rolla Building and Schrenk Hall.
