Watch fireworks on Friday; parking lot to close
Explosives campers will light up the skies above S&T during a student-produced fireworks display at approximately 8:45 p.m. Friday, June 22. Fireworks will be shot from Area M, Lot 36, west of the Engineering Research Laboratory. The parking lot will close at 1 p.m.

Retirement reception planned for Yinfa Ma
The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business, along with S&T’s chemistry department, will host a retirement reception for Dr. Yinfa Ma 2-4 p.m. Thursday, June 21, in St. Pat’s Ballroom B of the Havener Center. Ma is a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of chemistry and associate dean for research and external relations in the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. He joined the S&T chemistry faculty in 2000.

Missouri S&T’s Staff Council will host a blood drive for the Community Blood Center of the Ozarks 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. If you would like to volunteer to help staff the blood drive, please sign up online. One-hour shifts are available and you may volunteer as your schedule allows.

Read More »Memorial service for Howard Huang planned Saturday
Dr. Ju-Chang “Howard” Huang, professor emeritus of civil engineering and former director of the Environmental Research Center, died on Jan. 16, 2018, in Hong Kong. A memorial service for Huang will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., at Rolla Bible Church at 1801 E. 10th Street. The service will be followed by interment at Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens at 12110 Hwy 63 in Rolla.

As part of the university’s budget reduction and reinvestment plan, the office of institutional research and assessment (IRA) will close effective July 2. The closure will result in the elimination of four positions, three of which are filled. IRA staff were notified of the decision on Friday, June 15. Current IRA responsibilities will be redistributed to other units on campus. In the future, some responsibilities may be redistributed to University of Missouri System offices.
