MinerBytes maintainers and content authors will have a new year of informational lunches. Join the MinerBytes community at noon Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Room 106 Curtis Laws Wilson Library and help build up the community. New users are encouraged to attend and pick up some useful tricks, while established users are invited to share their experiences. Lunch is provided but seating is limited. The Miner Alumni Association’s Student Leadership Award Endowed Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates academic excellence, service to the campus and community, personal objectives and goals, potential, and quality recommendations. If you know a student who you think would be a good candidate, encourage them to apply. Applications are due by Tuesday, March 31.

The Joe Mooney Distinguished Student Award is granted to students in their sophomore or junior year and is intended to recognize leadership and service. One award is given to an outstanding member of an organization, and one is given to an outstanding officer of an organization. Selected students will each receive $250 from the Miner Alumni Association. If you know a student who would be a good candidate for this award, encourage them to apply. The nomination deadline is Tuesday, March 31.

Enroll in a Missouri S&T sponsored Zumba class at Vessell’s Fitness, located at 1910 N Elm St. in Rolla. Classes meet 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 4-March 11. The university has learned that Donald B. Higginbotham, retired lecturer of engineering management and systems engineering, died on Saturday, Jan. 17. No public visitation or memorial is expected to be held. Higginbotham taught at Missouri S&T from 1984 to 2010.

The previous entry about the Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies (CIES) distinguished lecture contained an incorrect start time. The lecture will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in Room 140 Toomey Hall. More information about the event can be viewed online.
