Stomach bug warning
Student health is seeing a large number of students with gastroenteritis, or the stomach bug. It is caused by a virus and is highly contagious. Symptoms typically last 48 hours. The most common symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea. Others include headache, fever, abdominal cramping, loss of appetite, feeling tired and weak, nausea, chills and aching muscles.
Read More »Parking fee changes take effect July 1
New parking rates for faculty, staff, students and campus visitors will take effect on July 1. Annual rates for reserve or designated permits will increase by three percent for the 2014-2015 fiscal year — from $124.20 to $127.90. Universal parking permits will also increase by three percent, from $248.30 to $255.80.

Research on Concrete Applications for Sustainable Transportation (RE-CAST) will host a research seminar from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, in Room 317 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The seminar will feature Dr. Kenneth Hover, former American Concrete Institute president and currently a professor of civil and environmental engineering at Cornell University. His presentation is titled “There is more to Concrete than Meets the Eye.” Later that day, Hover will present the Stueck Lecture.

The Extraordinary Student Leader Award is presented to a graduating senior who, through a variety of leadership roles, has substantially impacted the campus and is deserving of recognition for their contributions to campus during their time at Missouri S&T. If you like biking and want to know more about “green” locations in Rolla, join the Green Fun Ride at 3 p.m. today (Thursday, April 17) on the Painted Street in front of the Havener Center. The Green Fun Ride will take bike riders on a route to all of the green areas in Rolla. It will be a non-competitive ride of eight-to-10 miles long. Riders must bring their own bikes. Students, faculty and staff can now ride around campus in a new electric shuttle bus thanks to the office of sustainable energy and environmental engagement (OSE3). Read More »Windows XP support ended
Microsoft ended support for Windows XP on April 8. Information technology has worked with S&T departments to identify and phase out more than 3,000 XP systems over the past three years. Now that Microsoft has officially ended support, once a security exploit for Windows XP is detected by IT Security, access to the campus network may be prohibited for any Windows XP system without further notice. The campus community is encouraged to upgrade any personally owned XP systems to avoid security and network access issues.
