Educational research mini-grants available

Proposals are being accepted for the 2018-2019 cycle of S&T’s educational research mini-grant program. Full-time faculty, full-time staff and department chairs who have teaching duties may apply for up to $5,000 for an individual project, and up to $8,000 for an interdisciplinary team project. The award period extends from June 2018 through December 2019. A letter of intent is due by Thursday, March 1, and the full proposal is due by Friday, May 18. Get details online.

Apply for funding to publish results from mini-grant project

Past recipients of S&T educational research mini-grants who plan to disseminate their project results may apply for funding from the provost’s office through the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE). Past recipients may apply for up to $1,000 for project-related travel expenses and costs related to presenting or publishing the results of your educational research project. To apply, please submit a proposal by Friday, May 18, to the CERTI office. Details are available online.

CSTS open meetings planned today, next week

Researchers interested in the intersection of science, technology and society are invited to meetings of S&T’s Center for Science, Technology and Society (CSTS). The next meetings will be held 1-1:50 p.m. today (Monday, Feb. 5) and 3-3:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13. Both meetings will be held in Room 140 Toomey Hall.

Grand opening planned for business resource in Waynesville

Area businesses now have a Waynesville, Missouri, location to obtain business counseling services through Missouri S&T’s Small Business and Technology Development Center. An open house will be held 10 a.m.-noon Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Pulaski County Extension Center, located at 201 North St. in Waynesville. A ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. Learn more.

Staff invited to design special St. Pat’s shirt

Show off your creative talent and create a design to represent staff for a sweatshirt commemorating St. Pat’s. The winning design will be featured on a special-order sweatshirt sold by the St. Pat’s Board in conjunction with Staff Council. Staff Council will announce details later this month for ordering the staff-themed sweatshirt. All designs must be original, appropriate, created by staff members and use the “high noon” theme. To participate, send your design to Barbi Spencer, interim compliance specialist, at spencerbar@mst.edu by Friday, Feb. 16. Staff Council will announce the winner on Thursday, Feb. 22. The winner will receive a free sweatshirt.

“Suit Up” sale planned Feb. 11 for students, shuttle available

Missouri S&T and JCPenney in Rolla are partnering to help provide professional attire to S&T college students at a 40 percent discount during a “Suit Up” sale at 6:30-9:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. A shuttle service will be available for students who need transportation to and from the store. S&T student IDs are required for the discount. Missouri S&T’s Spring Career Fair will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, on campus.

University Police, in conjunction with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), reminds individuals to wear seatbelts and refrain from using mobile devices while driving. Blood drive wraps up tomorrow

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks is holding a blood drive through 5 p.m. today (Thursday, Feb. 1) and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 2) in St. Pat’s Ballroom A and B of the Havener Center. Student donors can earn St. Pat’s points and all donors get a free T-shirt and snacks while giving blood to help save lives. All blood types are needed.
