Presenters needed for Smart Living research network session

The Smart Living signature area wants to develop research networks to stimulate smart living research and to be poised for action when calls for grant proposals are announced. A smart living research networking session will be held 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, in 216 McNutt Hall. SWE selling roses

Members of S&T’s Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will hold a rose sale for Valentine’s Day. Roses will be sold 11 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Feb. 13, and Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Havener Center and the Curtis-Laws Wilson Library. The flowers cost $3 each, $7 for three flowers and $25 for 12 flowers.

Simulation competition coming up for students

Students of all majors and levels, including both graduate and undergraduate students, can register for the 2018 enterprise resource planning simulation competition. Participants will interact and network with industry coaches, get hands-on experience and free training in IT systems used by most Fortune 500 companies. To participate, students must register online by noon Thursday, Feb. 15.

Give your feedback on HLC materials, attend open forums

Missouri S&T will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit with the Higher Learning Commission Monday, Oct. 8, and Tuesday, Oct. 9, by a team representing the commission. In preparation for the site visit, the campus community is invited to review and provide feedback on materials created for the evaluation by Wednesday, Feb. 28. Additionally, faculty, staff and students are invited to learn about the accreditation process and provide feedback at open forums, which will be held:

  • 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center
  • 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center
  • 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center

Drop by library to see Rolla Mural restoration

Local artist Dan Woodward is restoring “The Rolla Mural” on the second floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library, where it will remain after his restoration work is finished in March. First created by Sidney Larson, the mural depicts the history of Rolla from 1844 to the 1950s. The 5-foot-by-22-foot piece depicts several historical figures, moments and buildings in Rolla’s history. It was originally commissioned by Edward Sowers in 1952 and displayed in the Sowers Building, which houses The Rolla Daily News. The Sowers family donated the mural to Missouri S&T, where it will be on public display in the library.

Presenters, research posters sought for symposium

The Center for Science, Technology and Society (CSTS) and the Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) are partnering to present S&T’s Biomedical Humanities Symposium 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in Room 140 Toomey Hall. S&T researchers are invited to give 15-minute presentations or display research posters that offer insight into how your research addresses one or more challenges arising from how people react or respond to biomedical innovations. Register for the conference, sign up to give a presentation or display a research poster. The deadline for submissions is Monday, Feb. 19.

Volunteers needed for Missouri S&T’s largest hackathon

Hundreds of college students will come together for 36 hours of coding, problem solving and team building during Missouri S&T’s hackathon, ShamHacks, from Friday, Feb. 9, through Sunday, Feb. 11, in St. Pat’s Ballroom A and B of the Havener Center. Volunteers are sought to help staff the event, which will begin with an opening ceremony at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, and conclude with a closing ceremony and hacker showcase at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11. Students hosting bone marrow registry drive

Thousands of patients nationwide with leukemia, lymphoma, other blood cancers and severe sickle cell disease depend on the Be The Match registry to find a donor for their treatment. The St. Pat’s Committee and Love Your Melon student group will host a Be The Match bone marrow registry drive 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, and Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the commons area on the first floor of the Havener Center.
