Staff spotlight: Jim Duncan
Summer is a busy time for S&T’s landscape crew and this July will mark a milestone for the team’s supervisor, Jim Duncan. July 20 will be his 42-year work anniversary at the university. That’s right – Duncan started working at Missouri S&T in 1977. “I’ve seen a lot of changes, a lot of history,” Duncan says.

The Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) announces that Dr. Irina Ivliyeva, professor of arts, languages and philosophy, will be the next assistant chair of CAFE, beginning June 1. Her appointment will last through May 31, 2020, at which time she will become chair.

A memorial service will be held for Rosia Fowler during worship services beginning at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, March 31, at New Dimensional Christian Ministries. Fowler was a cook in the Havener Center and a familiar face in campus dining services at S&T for 18 years.

Daniel “Dan” William Hickey, a former staff member, passed away March 24. He worked for University Police until retiring in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Debbie Hickey, assistant director of athletics at S&T. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 31, at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.

Former golf course turns into race course Saturday
Spectators can watch small off-road vehicles race in a local park Saturday, March 30, when Missouri S&T’s Baja Design Team hosts its first Miner Showdown – a collegiate race for Baja teams. The event will be held at the former Miner Golf Course, located along W. 10th St. near Innovation Park and Phelps Health in Rolla. An endurance race will begin at 2 p.m.

Help Miner Aviation soar into competition
The S&T Miner Aviation student design team will take its aircraft, named Dragonfly (pictured), to compete in an international competition in April. S&T’s team will compete at the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AIAA) Design, Build, Fly International Competition Wednesday, April 10, to Monday, April 15, in Tucson, Arizona.
