Employees who pay by Tuesday, Aug. 15, can get a discount for a 12-series membership in Weight Watchers, which will start Tuesday, Sept. 12. The series regularly costs $156 but those paying by Aug. 15 can sign up for $132.60, or three checks of $44.20. To get the discount, bring your payment to Paige Eissinger, senior media producer, in Room 102 Centennial Hall, or contact Eissinger or Peg Wilson, manager of network services, to make arrangements. Payments will not be processed until the week of Sept. 12.

By order of Gov. Eric Greitens, all flags at all state and government offices will be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset Saturday, Aug. 12, in honor of Gary L. Michael. A police officer, Michael died in the line of duty on Aug. 6.

Due to inclement weather, the New International Student Welcome Picnic at 2-4 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 10) will be moved from Schuman Park to the Southwestern Bell Cultural Center. The cultural center is located at 1207 N. Elm Street. Everyone is welcome to drop by and help create a warm and welcoming environment for our newly arrived students.

To celebrate students moving in, the Residential Hall Association will host a move-in bash 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, on the Havener Center lawn. The event will include a fireworks display. International and cultural affairs invites all new and current international students to participate in the annual New International Student Welcome Picnic 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Schuman Park’s lower pavilion. Faculty and staff are invited to attend and help the department extend a warm welcome to recently arrived international students. Make new friends and enjoy an afternoon of food, music, sports and prizes.

John Furlong, senior manager of library and instructional resources at St. Louis Community College in Florissant Valley, has been named director of library and learning resources at Missouri S&T’s Curtis Laws Wilson Library. His appointment will begin Monday, Sept. 11.

The campus community is invited to a retirement reception for Shenethia Manuel 2-3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. Manuel joined Missouri S&T in 2008 and has served as vice chancellor for human resources, equity and inclusion.
