Faculty forum to focus on finding a mentor

Finding a mentor will be the topic of this semester’s first Early Career Faculty Forum, which will be held 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, in 204 Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Refreshments and time for networking will be available at 3:45 p.m. The forum will feature presenters Dr. Susan Murray and Dr. Yinfa Ma. Murray is professor and chair of psychological sciences. Ma is Curators’ Distinguished Teaching professor of chemistry and associate dean of research in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business.

Writing center presentations available

Writing Center staff members are available to give brief classroom presentations describing one-on-one consultation services for undergraduates in any course, at any stage of the writing process. Orientation for new grad students set for Aug. 18

All new graduate students are invited to an orientation 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, in Hasselmann Alumni House. New graduate students will gain information on various topics, including funding, advising, library resources, counseling, career services, and academic and community resources. Celebration of life planned for Markell Mills

Students, faculty and staff are invited to a “Celebration of Life” ceremony for Markell Mills at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at the New Dimensional Christian Ministry in Rolla. The church is located at 12719 County Road 5110. Mills, a former student, died July 27. He was 31.

Reminder about parking in local community

University Police reminds the campus community of parking policies in the City of Rolla. Vehicles illegally parked in lots operated by the City of Rolla or on public streets will be ticketed and potentially towed. Businesses may contact the Rolla Police Department and report non-customer vehicles and request that they be ticketed and towed. If tickets are not paid or appealed through the appropriate process, warrants will be issued for the license holder or the operator.

Want students to have access to needed course materials? The Curtis Laws Wilson Library can help. The library has many paper and electronic items available in its reserves collection. Many faculty members choose to place course materials in the library reserves collection to ensure that students can access necessary materials. The library offers digital and physical reserves for textbooks, quizzes and homework. To submit your course reserves requests, stop by the library to drop off materials or complete an online form.
