Release party planned for professor’s novels

Living up to his name, Dr. Greg Story will hold a party to celebrate the release of five novels he penned. The event will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the loft at the Public House Brewing Co. in Rolla. Story is an associate professor of physics as well as a novelist. His new novels are named Bohemian Wind, On the Banks of the Socota, Turtles, Vanishing Indiscretions, and Colors of the Mind.

Robbery investigation underway

Ron Caraway, a systems security analyst, died Nov. 7. Visitation will be held noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel in Salem, Missouri. A memorial service for Caraway will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel.

Missouri S&T has recently been re-accredited to have its employees work in federal government ranks for a period of up to two years with salaries reimbursed to the university. As part of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (commonly called the “IPA program”), the federal government can borrow expertise from the public and private sectors.

Beware of scams

University Police has received a complaint of attempted fraud related to unsolicited telephone calls. The department reminds the campus community to keep the following tips in mind when receiving a phone call or email:

  • No reputable company or organization will call you to tell you owe taxes or have an unpaid debt, such as electricity or telephone. No legitimate company will require you to send funds electronically or place funds on a pre-paid card to satisfy a debt. If in doubt, hang up the phone and call the police.
