Spring 2025 Chi Epsilon initiates and honorees gather for a group photo following the induction ceremony at Missouri S&T.
The Missouri S&T Chapter of Chi Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society, welcomed 20 civil, architectural and environmental engineering students at its spring 2025 initiation ceremony, held Tuesday, April 29, in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall.
Chi Epsilon recognizes students who embody the four pillars of the civil engineering profession: scholarship, character, practicality and sociability. This year’s inductees were honored for their academic excellence, leadership and commitment to ethical engineering practice.
Chapter President Emma Kiger, a senior in architectural engineering, opened the ceremony, and emphasized the importance of integrity and service in engineering. The chapter also recognized Miner alumna Tracy Thomas, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering in 1985 and 1987, respectively, as Chapter Honor Member. Her career includes serving as managing director of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, where she oversees construction, facility and security management for a real property portfolio valued at over $90 billion. She shared valuable insights on the evolving role of engineers in building resilient and sustainable communities.
“We are proud to induct these exceptional individuals into Chi Epsilon,” says Dr. Joel Burken, faculty advisor. “Their dedication to the field and their peers reflects the highest standards of our profession.”
