Dr. Billie F. Spencer Jr., professor and Newmark Endowed Chair of civil engineering at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will present two lectures, one technical, one for general audiences, as part of the new “Distinguished Lecture Series” organized by the System and Process Assessment Research (SPAR) Laboratory in the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department at Missouri S&T. The lectures are free and open to the campus community.
The technical lecture “Monitoring of Civil Infrastructure: Research to Engineering Practice” will be held 2-2:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Room 213 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. A new paradigm for structural health monitoring that employs a network of smart sensors will be presented.
A general lecture will be held 4-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. This lecture is titled “Achievements and Innovative Approaches in Structural Experimentation,” and will highlight some of the advances that have been made in testing and analyzing complex structures and components.
