New student programs and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will bring national speaker Odell Bizzell to campus during Opening Week. Join S&T’s incoming freshman class for Bizzell’s keynote address 4:45-6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in the Gibson Arena of the Gale Bullman Building.

During Orientation Week, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to work with new students and establish that S&T’s value of inclusion is woven into the fiber of the community. Similar to 2018, faculty and staff will facilitate workshops with small groups of 20-30 students. Facilitators are required to attend one “Diversity Concepts” class and one “Facilitating Difficult Conversations” class. These classes are open to the campus and provide an opportunity for professional development and earning wellness incentive points.

When new S&T students started Orientation Week this year, the approximately 1,300 freshmen learned about Miner values at their very first session. More than 50 faculty and staff volunteers facilitated the workshops.
