ADVANCE awards first department enhancement grants

Four proposals were selected for funding through S&T’s ADVANCE Program’s Department Enhancement Grant initiative. These grants help departments implement strategies to reduce inequities and enhance the departmental climate, especially in the recruitment, retention and advancement of women.

The College of Engineering and Computing presented its fall 2021 awards during a ceremony at the Havener Center on Nov. 5. In addition, Dr. Richard Wlezien, CEC dean, recognized new faculty and staff members in the college’s departments.

STEM barriers for rural students and learning outcomes with computer tutorials are a couple of topics faculty will be researching with the help of mini-grant funding from the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE). CAFE recently provided nearly $21,000 in mini-grant funding for the following projects:

Springtime means grant time at the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE), and instructors can apply for Educational Research Mini-Grants. The center welcomes innovative thinkers, like Dr. Nishant Kumar, associate teaching professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. In this video, he discusses how his grant aided in his success as a non-tenure-track (NTT) faculty member.
