Proposals for South African exchange due tomorrow

The University of Missouri South African Education Program (UMSAEP) Committee invites proposals for faculty interested in participating in the academic exchange between the University of Missouri System and South Africa. Funding is available for exchanges with the University of the Western Cape (UWC) located near Cape Town and partnerships with other South African institutions.

Today’s retirement reception to honor Clark, Gelles

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Business, along with S&T’s department of mathematics and statistics and economics department, will host a retirement reception for Dr. Stephen Clark and Dr. Greg Gelles 2-4 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the Carver-Turner Room of the Havener Center. The two department chairs have each served S&T for three decades.

  • Mining Magazine published the article, “Missouri S&T Team Takes on Explosive Engineering Research” on July 30 about research led by Dr. Kyle Perry, assistant professor of mining and nuclear engineering. In the study, Perry’s team will pair explosives with common mining materials, with the ultimate goal of improving mine safety.
  • Dr. Larry Gragg, professor emeritus of history, was interviewed by reporter Tom Hawley on channel KSNV in Las Vegas. In the news segment, which aired Aug. 1, Gragg discussed how mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel shaped Las Vegas.
