Dr. Bill Schonberg, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, presented two papers at the 2017 Hypervelocity Impact Symposium, held April 23-28 in Canterbury, England. Schonberg’s first presentation was based on work he performed as a faculty fellow at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory during the summer of 2016. He described the development of design equations that would increase the safety of human space travel and space operations in earth orbit and beyond.

Read More »Dr. Nick Libre, assistant professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, created an innovative way of teaching his Mechanics of Materials class. Following an injury that limited his mobility, he decided to record his lectures and upload the videos to YouTube so he could still reach his students without being in class. His students encouraged him to continue to produce them after he returned to the classroom. To date, Libre’s YouTube channel has reached over 130 countries and nearly 20,000 visitors. Read More »Dr. Daniel Oerther, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, was appointed as a member of the credentialed U.S. delegation to the United Nations Committee on World Food Security in Rome, Italy, in October. As a foreign affairs officer, this was Oerther’s fourth appointment to represent the U.S. Department of State as part of an inter-agency governmental delegation to a major international conference.
