Faculty are invited to a “Faculty First Friday lunch” noon-1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at Hasselmann Alumni House. At the informal event, faculty can network and share ideas with colleagues and university leaders. Participants should bring their lunch, and the chancellor’s office will provide drinks and desserts.

Student success coach applications due Dec. 9

The Burns & McDonnell Student Success Center is hiring student success coaches. The application deadline has been extended to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9. The staff is looking for responsible team players who enjoy planning and executing programs, are knowledgeable about campus resources and are passionate about helping students. United Way of Phelps County still needs our help

The S&T campaign for the United Way began in late October and is ongoing. United Way of Phelps County raises money for emergency food and shelter, child abuse and neglect prevention, youth character development, senior citizen nutrition, community health care and many other services in the county.

‘Beard Off’ planned Dec. 4

The Gamma Gamma Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and Missouri S&T Optimists are teaming up with the Missouri S&T Police Department to host a “Beard Off” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Beards will be judged and prizes will be awarded.

Flags at half-staff Thursday, Dec. 1

By order of Gov. Jay Nixon, all flags at all state and government facilities will be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday, Dec. 1, in honor of Judge Richard B. Teitelman. A Missouri Supreme Court judge, Teitelman died Nov. 29. Funeral services will be held Dec. 1.

Spend tonight stargazing

The Missouri S&T Observatory will open its doors at 10 p.m. tonight, Monday, Nov. 28, for viewing the Great Orion Nebula. The viewing is free and no reservations are required. The sky must be clear for observing. The observatory is located at 1550 N. Bishop Ave., next to S&T’s Stonehenge replica, north of McNutt Hall and west of St. Patrick’s Lane.
