The Office of Undergraduate Studies is hosting Missouri S&T’s Undergraduate Research Conference 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Havener Center. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to stop by the conference, and speak with students about their research. Get more details.

The Small Business and Technology Development Center at Missouri S&T is co-sponsoring two upcoming events to help individuals improve their business skills.

Missouri S&T will host two sessions of the nationwide Camp Invention program, July 10-14 and July 24-28. The week-long summer day camp is designed for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. As a Missouri S&T employee, you can register a camper for a discounted price of $165. The regular fee is $225.

Walt Branson, vice chancellor for finance and administration, and Dr. Robert Marley, provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, discussed budget planning with the campus community and answered audience questions at an open forum held today, April 7, in Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. The slides from their presentation can be downloaded from S&T’s finance and administration website.

A timeline for short-term planning for the FY2018 budget and long-term budget planning is included in the presentation. Missouri S&T continues to be committed to preserving the academic core of the university to the fullest extent possible, preserving revenue streams and moving forward strategically.

The campus community is invited to an open budget forum at 3 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Choi’s recent budget messages and how our work on budget scenarios at Missouri S&T fits with the president’s request.

University of Missouri System President Mun Y. Choi and Dr. Christopher Maples, retired president of Oregon Institute of Technology, are on Missouri S&T’s campus Thursday, April 13. Choi is introducing Maples to campus leaders, including Faculty Senate officers, deans, the Chancellor’s Cabinet members and Staff Council representatives. Nominations of students for the Joe Mooney Distinguished Student Award are due today, April 6, via the Miner Alumni Association website. The award recognizes leadership and service by S&T students who are in their sophomore or junior years. One award is given to an outstanding member of a recognized student organization; another is given to an outstanding officer of a recognized student organization. Selected students will each receive $1,000 each.

If you know an employee who deserves recognition, make sure you nominate him or her for a 2017 Staff Excellence Award by the end of today, Thursday, April 6. The awards recognize staff members for contributing significantly to the university through a combination of job performance, relationships with their associates and dedication to Missouri S&T.

Support the Miner Challenge Alternative Break Program by playing trivia with a team of up to eight people 6-9 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Hasselmann Alumni House. Mini games and a silent auction will be held throughout the evening. Food and drinks will be sold; it is not a bring-your-own event. All proceeds go toward supporting Miner Challenge, which sends teams of students on immersive volunteer trips during university breaks.
