Dr. Richard W. Wlezien, the Vance and Arlene Coffman Endowed Department Chair in Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University and a former researcher and program director at NASA and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), has been named vice provost and dean of Missouri S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing. University of Missouri System’s accounts payable shared services team will present “Employee Reimbursements in Travel and Expense Module” during two sessions Monday, June 12, in Room 235 Engineering Management Building. The training is designed for employees who work directly with these transactions, approve them or supervise employees who do. Space is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Choose to attend training at 10-11:30 a.m. or 1-2:30 p.m. Register on the accounts payable shared services site.

The Phelps for the Fort committee, which includes Missouri S&T and the chambers of commerce for Rolla and St. James, will host an Association of the United States Army barbecue at 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Veterans Memorial Park on Southview Drive in Rolla. The event is open to the campus community.

University of Missouri System President Mun Y. Choi will present the system’s budget plan for fiscal year 2018 and beyond during a presentation at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. The presentation will be live streamed at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, in Room 125 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall, and members of the Missouri S&T community are encouraged to attend. Faculty, staff and students may also watch the address via a live stream (the link will be available on www.umsystem.edu/president/budget_planning) on the device of their choice.

By order of U.S. President Donald Trump, all flags at all state and government offices will be flown at half-staff until noon Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day. The flag, when flown at half-staff, should be first hoisted to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position, and returned to full staff at noon.

The heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) in Schrenk Hall West will be shut down at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, to clean the intake air system. The cleaning will take approximately two hours. Once completed, the system will be restarted; however, there will be intermittent outages throughout the day to balance the system and reset all thermostats. This outage will not affect Schrenk Hall East or any of the building exhaust systems.
